Born:  John Adams, October 30, 1735 in Braintree (now Quincy), Province of Massachusetts Bay, British America 

Died: July 4, 1826 at the age of 90

Occupation:  Farmer and Lawyer, admitted to Bar in 1758

Political Party:  Federalist 

Religion: Raised a Congregationalist and later became a Unitarian

Referred to as "His Rotundity"

Home:  Peacefield also called Old House at Braintree (now Quincy, Massachusetts)

1751  Went to Harvard College at the age of 16

1755  Graduated from Harvard

1758  Became a lawyer

1764  Married Abigail Smith

1765  Strong opponent of the Stamp Act

1767 His son, future President John Quincy Adams is born

1770  Legally represents British Soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre

1774  Delegate from Massachusetts to the First Continental Congress


1775  Delegate from Massachusetts to the Second Continental Congress

1776  Appointed to a Committee to draft a Declaration of Independence

1777-1779  Ambassador to France

1785  Ambassador to Great Britain

1789  Elected Vice President

1792 Reelected Vice President

1796  Wins Presidential Election of 1796

1797-1801   President of the United States with Thomas Jefferson as his Vice President

1798  Alien and Sedition Acts Passed


1800  Adam's son Charles dies as a result of his alcoholism

1800  On November 1st Adams became the first President to occupy the White House in Washington, D.C.

1801   Judiciary Act of 1801 passed

1801  Adams appoints the "Midnight Judges"

1801  Appoints John Marshall as the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court

1801  Retires to Peacefield in Quincy, Massachusetts and resumed farming


1812  Adams reconciles with Jefferson and they become friends

1813  Adam's daughter Abigail dies of breast cancer

1818  Adam's wife Abigail dies of typhoid

1825  Adams son John Quincy Adams becomes the 6th President of the United States

1826  Adams dies on July 4th which is the same exact day that Jefferson dies
