Prepositions In Time and Space
© Rudolph 2009
So, what is a preposition?
I do not have a clue.
My teacher told me to look for it,
but I still don’t know what to do.
Should I look up or down?
Or in or out?
Outside or inside?
Should I look along, around, or across the floor?
Or, below, besides, or between the door?
Should I look over, off or on
my teacher’s ugly clothes?
I just wish the answer
would pop under my nose.
Chorus
Inside, outside, up, and down,
outside, inside, all around.
Don’t stop until
you’re face to face
with prepositions in time and space.
So, what is the answer
to this very perplexing task?
I finally got the nerve
to raise my hand and ask.
My teacher was mad.
Said I was almost out of time.
I also had another problem.
I was almost out of rhymes.
But I still had a few that would last me
until the time was done.
I might not know the answer,
but I might as well have fun.
Chorus
So, during his rambling,
that just went on and on.
I drew a picture of him
at the wrong end of a water gun.
The water it did splash him.
He acted like he just didn’t care.
Until it became apparent,
that he wet his underwear.
He ran into the closet.
He said he would not come out
until we had the answer,
and of course we would have to shout.
Then I remembered something important
that would put a smile on his face.
I yelled out the answer.
“Prepositions show positions in time and space.”
Chorus
My teacher he burst out the closet door,
and said that I was right.
I finally got the answer
He said that I was bright.
He covered his wet pants,
and quickly ran out the door.
I never thought my picture
would end up dripping upon the floor.
Chorus

Christopher Rudolph
